Located solemnly and quietly in a small village in Thanh Tri district, Ngau Pagoda is not only a sacred place, attached to the villagers, but also impresses tourists from far away with its ancient beauty.
Ngau Pagoda (literal name is Hung Long Tu), located north of Ngau village, Tam Hiep commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi.
Legend has it that the pagoda was built in 1130 by Queen Le Thien (era name Thien Thuan, during the reign of King Ly Than Tong), as a place to worship Buddha and the Patriarch Mother Ngau.
Through many incidents and war bombs, Ngau Pagoda was completely destroyed.
By 1995, the pagoda was rebuilt. Although it was almost newly built, Ngau Pagoda still has an ancient, warm and dignified look.
Hidden under the lush green trees, the pagoda includes works such as Tam Quan gate, Tam Bao throne, Ancestral Church, Hung Quoc Imperial Palace....
The three jewels of the pagoda are built on a high roof, in front is the statue of Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara Nam Hai. The front hall area consists of 5 compartments and 2 wings, with 3 floors rising to 2 floors in a match-stacking style, connected directly to the 7-compartment middle hall and the 3-compartment upper palace. Around the backyard of the upper palace are the guest house, the Patriarch's house and the monk's house.
The temple grounds are filled with green trees. Beautiful small paths surrounding the aquarium help visitors leisurely stroll and admire the temple's scenery.
Every detail of carving and decoration at the temple is very elaborate and meticulous. The most easily seen motifs are dragons, patterns, lotus flowers...
Because it is located deep in the village, Ngau Pagoda is not known to many tourists from far away places. But for the people of Ngau village, the temple is a sacred and peaceful place; This is a place you cannot miss to visit to pray for peace during the New Year.
