Hon Phu Tu is located on the waters of Ba Trai village, Binh An commune, Kien Luong district, 70km from Rach Gia city center. This place was once considered "Ha Long Bay" of Kien Giang. In 1989, Phu Tu island along with Hon Chong scenic relic area were recognized as national scenic spots.

This is essentially a small island made of limestone, with a structure connected by a common stone pedestal about 5m high. The island has a distinct structure of two large blocks (Phu island) and small (Tu island). Because of this special structure, Phu Tu stone is considered a sacred symbol expressing the love between father and child.

Legend has it that in the past, in this sea, there was a boat that often sank fishermen's boats. At that time, at the foot of An Hai Son mountain next to the cave pagoda, there was a father and son who worked as fishermen. Because they were so dissatisfied with this scene, they decided to destroy the bamboo to eliminate harm to their people.

The beach at Phu Tu island has clear sea water, fine sand, no reefs, suitable for swimming and diving.

After many unsuccessful battles, his father planned to use himself as bait to protect the villagers, so he soaked himself in poison and lay near the edge of the sea to lure evil beasts. Then the dragon rose from the bottom of the sea and ate the poisoned father and died.

The son went to look for his father and found only a part of his body lying on the beach, so he hugged him and cried. Unexpectedly, the poison seeped into his body, so the son was also poisoned and died. Moved by the heroism of the father and the affection of the son, the sky was stormy for many days in a row; The place where father and son died suddenly grew two rocks, one large and one small. The villagers were grateful to father and son, so they named him Phu Tu.

To get to Phu Tu island, visitors must go to Hai Son Tu, also known by locals as Hang Pagoda. Photo: Thanh Thu

To get to Phu Tu island, visitors must go to Hai Son Tu, also known by locals as Hang Pagoda. The reason it is called Hang Pagoda is because the entire pagoda space is located entirely in a cave inside An Hai Son mountain. This natural rock cave is about 40m deep. The narrowest area is about 1 meter, about 3 or 4 people can fit through. The pagoda has two doors, the main door facing the mainland, the smaller back door leading straight to the sea where Phu Tu island is located.

Inside the Hang Pagoda is a white Maitreya Buddha statue, made of stone weighing about 22 tons. On both sides there are two white lions. The incense burner and altar are both made of stone. In addition, the cave also has many stalactites and stalactites with unique shapes.
