Cloud hunting tourism is an experiential product that has long been known to tourists when coming to Lao Cai. Among many places, cloud hunting on Ngai Thau peak (Bat Xat) is a very popular place because of the unique beauty of this place.
Ngai Thau Thuong is located in A Lu commune, Bat Xat district, more than 70km from Lao Cai city. This place, known as the highest village in Vietnam with an altitude of 2,300m above sea level, is inhabited by the Mong ethnic people. Ngai Thau in the local language means Stone Cape, located on the top of majestic Ma Cha Va mountain amidst thousands of white clouds.
The road to upper Ngai Thau village
Many young people who love to travel have come to Ngai Thau Thuong to explore new lands or to take beautiful photos. Just thinking about the moment of immersing yourself in the cold, peaceful air on the top of the mountain, as if your hands were touching a sea of floating clouds, makes you want to immediately pick up your backpack and set out.
Beautiful sea of clouds from upper Ngai Thau village
The ideal rattan hunting season lasts from October to March of the following year. However, the shape of the sea of clouds is different every time, every day, causing tourists who have not yet returned to make an appointment to meet again. In the last days of winter and early spring, peach and plum blossoms bloom in every corner of the village, blurred behind the morning mist. Occasionally, a few strong rays of sunlight separate from the clouds, illuminating an entire area after being obscured for a long time. The picture of open nature and fresh air makes tourists from far away feel like they have renewed their health and soul, forgetting all the fatigue of the noisy city.
From the upper Ngai Thau rocky cape, you can see the Thien Sinh valley, the The Pa terraced fields of the Ha Nhi and Mong people stretching out endlessly. Besides the "virtual living rock", the lonely tree at the intersection of the road to Can Cau is also a photography location sought after by tourists.

In addition to the clouds, this place also attracts tourists by traditional dishes with bold flavors of the mountains and forests such as: Shiitake mushrooms, salad with green vegetables, black chicken, Ban pig... Or the forests of ancient pine trees and moss. The wind is hidden in a sea of hazy clouds. In the Mong ethnic language, Tong Quan Su means a tree that can survive the winter. The rows of towering trees piercing the sea of clouds both beautify the mountains and forests and affirm their vitality, refusing to yield to the wind, rain, and storms.
