The ancient well is located underground in a beautiful mysterious monastery in Ninh Binh

Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery has a mysterious beauty, meticulousness and sophistication in every detail. It is a place that few people know and must be "depending on fate" to visit at the right time.

Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery is located in Phu Son commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province, more than 70km from Hanoi.

The monastery is located peacefully in the middle of green, rolling forests and mountains. The only sounds around are the sounds of birds singing and the rustling of leaves, adding to the mysterious and ancient look.

The church was built around 1939 to 1945 in French Gothic architecture with a characteristic curved dome. Up to now, the church has been 78 years old, but the lines and details are still preserved almost intact, only the red tile roof on the outside was repaired in 2014.

The church is designed in the style of ancient European architecture, the exterior is built of rustic bricks without mortar, creating a deep red color that stands out in the space. The dome of the church is not made of reinforced cement but is made of molasses, bagasse and bamboo woven together.

The cathedral is a place to worship Jesus as well as a place to pray. The 21 m high white dome in the heart of the cathedral is the most massive and magnificent architectural work in the monastery.

Long corridors with exquisitely carved columns.

The Fatima Prayer Garden is also a special highlight of the Monastery with a series of miniatures, statues of Saints, artificial stone eggs and laterite wells...

Right in the middle of the Fatima prayer garden, an ancient well is still preserved. To get down to this place, you have to go through a tunnel built entirely of laterite. This is a sacred prayer area, not always open for visitors to visit.

Despite its beautiful scenery, Chau Son Monastery is rarely open to visitors. Because this is a Catholic building serving monastic activities and prayers, it will only be open at certain hours. According to the monastery's regulations, opening hours will be in the afternoon on weekends. During Lent (the season of suffering for Catholics), this place does not welcome visitors.
