Bo Cat Island or Tran Nhan Island is a forward island located in the Gulf of Tonkin. Viewed from above, the island looks like a green leaf in the middle of the sea. People often call it Tran Nhan, because the island is located close to Tran Island and this place is home to many swallows.

Tran Nhan Island forms an arc of rocks and grass right in the middle of the ocean.
Recently, I was fortunate to be allowed by the leaders of Co To district to visit Tran Nhan island to capture the wild beauty of this island. From Ho Chi Minh City, I flew to Cat Bi and then drove back to Ao Tien port to stay one night. The next morning, I took the train at 7:30 to go to the main island about 45km from the shore. In the afternoon, I continued to change boats from the military force to head straight to Bo Cat island. When I arrived, it was already sunset. After a night of floating on the boat, the next morning I officially set foot on Tran Nhan.
This is a frontline island located near the border, playing an important role in terms of military security and maritime sovereignty, so tourists are not allowed to travel here like other tourist islands.
The north side of the island is a majestic high cliff, plunging straight into deep water.
The hundreds of millions of years old cliffs are up to 100 meters high, formed from successive volcanic eruptions in the past.
Từ nơi cao nhất của đảo, các vách đá giảm dần độ cao theo hai hướng để tạo thành hình cánh cung độc đáo.
I have been to many islands in Vietnam, but Tran Nhan is an island with an extremely special shape. The southern side of the island is like a green steppe, not horizontal but curved in an arc from above, right below is a beautiful white sand beach. The north face is a magnificent vertical cliff, 100m high and gradually decreasing in two directions, northeast and northwest, creating a solid wall.
Tran Nhan Island was formed about 430 million years ago from a volcanic eruption at sea. Over time, eruptions continued to form the island as it is today. Because it is a volcanic island, the soil here is mainly sedimentary rock or shale, contributing to the diversity of plants here.
Running along the lowest area of the island are long stretches of green grass.
Volcanic rocks help vegetation grow brightly, creating the island's characteristic green color.
The maple trees grow low and stand close together, forming a beautiful green carpet of maple trees.
The vegetation on Tran Nhan island is very diverse. Here, I encountered unique maple trees. Instead of growing into tall trees, here the maple trees grow low and form large carpets. Some plants, when exposed to the wind, will roll around on the ground due to the strong wind blowing on the island.
The island's name is Tran Nhan, so there is definitely no shortage of terns here. This species of birds is concentrated in large numbers in the north of the island, they nest, search for food, and live in very large flocks.
The ghostly rock patterns are the clearest evidence of a very long period of active volcanic activity here.
Because it is an island formed from a volcanic eruption, the rocks at Tran Nhan are mainly sedimentary rocks, contributing to the diversity of plants here.
Waves crash strongly against the base of towering cliffs.
On the island there are always border guards patrolling to protect and prevent intrusion day and night. Currently, the island has absolutely banned tourist activities and overnight stays.
