Every morning, when hundreds of fishing boats enter the coast of Tam Tien (Quang Nam), people and tourists can witness the bustling scene at this local largest fish market.
From 4 a.m. daily, hundreds of fishing boats of fishermen begin to gather along the coast of Tam Tien, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam. The fish market is located right on the beach, about 15 km from Tam Ky city.
According to locals, the market has been around for more than 15 years and is getting more and more crowded. Previously, the market was just a gathering place for fishermen's fishing boats. When the number of boats increased, traders also gradually concentrated to create the crowded scene like today.
The market only meets in the summer and is the largest wholesale seafood market in Quang Nam province. Fishermen will set sail around 3pm the day before and return to the mainland around 3-4am the next day.
Fishermen's fishing boats were brought in and hundreds of baskets of seafood were carried ashore for traders and people to choose from.
The fish market is sold early in the morning every day. In order to have the freshest fish, many people also run into the sea to pick up fish baskets and also participate in helping fishermen remove nets.
Seafood at the market is diverse with many types of fish such as alum, pompano, mullet, anchovies, tuna, halibut, scad and all kinds of shrimp, crab, crab...
The price of seafood at the market varies depending on the size, such as pomfret 120,000-140,000 VND/kg, scad 50,000-70,000 VND/kg or squid 100,000-140,000 VND/kg. During holidays or when there is a shortage of seafood, the price of these types also increases.
To choose the freshest and most satisfying seafood, small businesses often have to compete with each other, creating a bustling atmosphere.
To feel the rhythm of Tam Tien fish market, locals and visitors must be present from 4-5 hours a day, if you go later, the market will close.
