The Ba Bai Base, one of the most significant historical sites in Hau Giang, was once the headquarters and strategic military base for Can Tho Province during the Vietnam War. Spanning over 6 hectares, the base was fortified with four trenches surrounded by Ba Bai Canal (southwest), Cu Canal (northwest), Ca Cuong Canal (northeast), and Xang, Lai Hieu Canals (southeast).

Originally a covert outpost and defense stronghold, Ba Bai Base played a pivotal role in intercepting and repelling enemy attacks and insurgencies. Its dense foliage provided cover for courageous soldiers and ensured operational safety for the Provincial Party Secretary's office and its associates.
