Thay Thim Palace Festival.

Tan Hai commune, Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan province

Dinh Thay Thim Festival has long been considered a unique and typical traditional festival not only of the local community but also a common cultural heritage of many neighboring provinces and cities in the Southern region.

Located in Tan Tien commune (La Gi town, Binh Thuan province), Thay Thim Palace is majestic amidst a magical natural landscape. The architectural design and artistic decorative motifs on the exterior as well as the interior decoration and worship style clearly demonstrate religion.

Especially the content of the story of Thay Thim, worship and forms of activities, annual folk festivals at the Palace are closely associated with the customs, beliefs and cultural and spiritual life of the local people.

Accordingly, in the past, in Lang La Qua, Dien Ban district, Quang Nam province, there was a Taoist monk who was rich in compassion and sublime magic, admired by everyone for his extraordinary deeds. Due to being unfairly convicted by the court, the Taoist and his wife miraculously escaped.

The land of Tam Tan (currently Tan Tien commune, La Gi town) became a gathering place for many miraculous stories passed down related to that anonymous Taoist couple, but with a heart of respect for the people. The local people call him Thay Thim.

When he was young, he also pursued the path of education to gain fame, but several times he failed in exams, so he had to find a teacher to study religion and nurture the will to help the world. After attaining enlightenment, he had a great funeral, his biological parents suddenly passed away. He patiently lived a miserable life, knew how to respect justice, and loved people, so he was loved by the people in the village.

Thay Thim's village experiences drought and crop failure all year round. People's lives are miserable, food is not enough, and when they are sick, they feel hopeless. One time, before a drought, the rice fields were in danger of sunburn, so the teacher stood up to pray, and immediately the sky turned dark and it rained heavily. The rice fields revived like a miracle. His compassion in the face of disastrous situations made everyone admire him and his reputation spread everywhere.

This place has 2 main festivals during the year: The first festival is held on the 5th day of the first lunar month. This is the day to sweep Teacher Thim's grave, which according to folk legend is the day Teacher Thim passed away. To carry out this festival, from previous days, preparations were made in the Palace. The villagers went to the tomb early in the morning, about 3km from the Palace, and brought the tablets back to the Palace.

The second festival starts from the 14th to the 16th of the 9th lunar month and is held every year. This is the main festival of the Palace. Before the festival, the villagers organized the death anniversary of the Old Sages and Late Sages to show gratitude to their predecessors who had contributed to the destruction and construction of their homeland hundreds of years ago, and it was also an expression of the moral principle of "Drinking". "Water remembers its source" of the people.

Actually, it's not just these days that tourists from all over come, but half a month before that, many people from all over come and after half a month the festive atmosphere is still vibrant. In fact, throughout the entire ninth lunar month every year in this area there is always a festive atmosphere. The most concentrated is still on the 14th, 15th, 16th of the 9th lunar month, when visitors from all over come to enjoy and visit Thay Thim Palace every day. In recent years, the number of tourists coming to Thay Thim Palace has been increasing, welcoming about 600,000 visitors each year.
