(CLO) When mentioning the land of Vinh Long, people will immediately think of fruitful orchards or many pagodas with unique architectural works. However, this place is also famous for its traditional brick and ceramic village that has been burning for hundreds of years.

As one of the provinces located in the Mekong Delta region, Vinh Long is a land that reserves an extremely large amount of clay. Therefore, this place has advantages and conditions that allow people to form the brick-burning profession. From the profession of burning bricks, people later developed into pottery. Therefore, this place has become the largest traditional handmade ceramic land in the Mekong Delta region.

Là một trong những tỉnh thành nằm trong khu vực Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long, Vĩnh Long là vùng đất dự trữ một lượng đất sét vô cùng lớn.

According to research by Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper, the brick and tile making village in the Co Chien riverside area - Vinh Long has the longest existence among the brick and tile making villages in the West. The brick kiln is located in Long Ho and Mang Thit districts. Among them, the largest number of households participating in brick production is concentrated in Nhon Phu and My An communes, Mang Thit district, Vinh Long province.

Talking about the time of formation and development of the craft village, Mr. Le Tai - a resident here said: "I only heard the elders say that Vinh Long ceramic brick baking appeared in the early 20th century. Initially, people took advantage of the abundant clay resources only to produce bricks and tiles. At that time, there was no place in the Mang Thit and Long Ho areas that could make similar products.

After a while, Vinh Long's ceramic brick firing profession began to develop in other localities. Thousands of kilns burn brightly all year round. In addition, the number of boats carrying goods and raw materials continuously enters and leaves the wharf, covering the entire Mang Thit, Co Chien, and Thay Cai canals. However, whether Sa Dec or Cao Lanh, Mang Thit and Long Ho still deserve the name "red kingdom" of the West.

For the past 100 years, Mang Thit Vinh Long brick kiln has existed and grown along with the poetic Co Chien River.

For about 100 years, Mang Thit Vinh Long brick kiln has existed and grown along with the romantic Co Chien river. The ceramic village's products are also allowed to be exported to many countries around the world.

Therefore, indigenous people living in this land for hundreds of years have fondly called Mang Thit brick kiln, Vinh Long, the "brick and tile kingdom". In the past, when the traditional craft of making bricks was still prosperous, each family owned several kilns. During the season, everyone releases white smoke into the sky. The brick kilns are located close together, looking from a distance like a beautiful little kingdom with hundreds of small castles.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dong (living in Nhon Phu commune, Mang Thit district) shared: “Here, a brick kiln is usually about 12 meters high and it takes 5 days to load and unload bricks, 15 days to burn and 10 days to build the door. furnace and wait for the bricks to cool. Bricks are fired with rice husks with a very careful inspection and fire watch process to ensure the bricks are 'cooked' just right. After about 1 month of firing, the finished product is about 120,000 standard red bricks. In the past, when transportation was not yet developed, bricks were transported throughout the South by river."

The ceramic village's products are also allowed to be exported to many developed countries around the world.

Now the "burnt brick kingdom" is still there, just moss has grown, dust has gathered, currently only a few of these brick kilns are still burning. Because the modern kiln system prevails, Vinh Long's traditional brick kilns gradually 'fell out of favor' and eventually fell into the past.

In addition, one of the other objective reasons why manual kilns are no longer as active as before is probably due to environmental pollution from smoke and dust. However, this place is still an attractive tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Not to mention, this place also has many unique shooting angles that visitors will definitely find hard to miss.

Ms. Le Nhu Van (tourist) shared: “Accidentally, a friend of mine took a photo of this place and sent it to me. I asked her where this place was that looked like a wonder of the world, but she said the picture in the photo was in Mekong - Vietnam. I didn't believe it. Thousands of giant brick-burning towers look like a dream. This scene is a wonderful blend of architecture and nature."
