Vung Tau Nghinh Ong Festival is one of the oldest and traditional folk festivals of Vung Tau fishermen. This is also the most important event of the year for the city's fishermen to show their loyalty to Cach Ong ( I have further explanation below). According to the beliefs of fishermen, Ong fish, also known as whale, is considered a god who saves them whenever boats encounter difficulties at sea.
Nghinh Ong Vung Tau Festival takes place from the 15th to the 18th of the 8th month in the lunar calendar every year, at Dinh Than Thang Tam, Vung Tau city.
At 5:30 a.m., the Nghinh Ong palanquin procession on the sea departs from Front Beach to Hon Ba at Nghinh Phong cape, then to Ong Nam Hai Tomb (Thang Tam Communal House). At this communal house, many precious whale skeletons are stored, including one from 1868, weighing 4 tons and up to 30 meters long.
Through the ups and downs of history, the fishermen's trust in today's Nam Hai general remains intact. The traditional cultural source is still continued even in modern life, when they still look towards the wise ancestors and descendants, to the people who explored and created a land for today. now.
Visitors from all over also come to burn incense and pray for something for themselves, their families and also to integrate into the history, traditions and cultural features of the land and people of Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
