Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival is held from the afternoon of the 1st day of the Lunar New Year, opening on the 6th day of the Lunar New Year and lasting until the end of March, the opening ceremony for pilgrimage festivals to the ancient capital of Hoa Lu Ninh Binh. Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival consists of 2 parts.
The ceremony includes rituals of burning incense to worship Buddha, commemorating the merits of Saint Nguyen Minh Khong, worshiping Cao Son god and worshiping Saint Mother Thuong Ngan. Bai Dinh pagoda festival begins with the procession of palanquin carrying tablets worshiping God Cao Son, Saint Nguyen and Lady Thuong Ngan from the old pagoda area to the new pagoda area to conduct the festival.
The Bai Dinh pagoda festival includes folk games, visiting caves, sightseeing at the pagoda, and enjoying the art of Cheo, Xam, and Ca Tru singing in the ancient capital. The theatrical part is usually performed by Ninh Binh Cheo Theater, recreating the coronation ceremony of Emperor Dinh Tien and the flag offering ceremony of King Quang Trung on Dinh Mountain before the battle.
Delegates, monks and nuns, Buddhists and tourists participated in the prayer ceremony for peace and prosperity, good weather and a prosperous country.
With the advantage of a large pagoda complex, Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival is a large festival, attracting many tourists to participate. Due to the legends associated with kings Dinh Tien Hoang, Quang Trung, Le Thanh Tong and the worship of Saint Nguyen, God Cao Son, and Ba Chua Thuong Ngan, Bai Dinh pagoda festival has both natural worship and expressing the beliefs of Buddhism, Mausoleum, and Confucianism.
The festival is held to commemorate the merits of heroes who have contributed to their homeland and country. This is also an opportunity for tourists from all over the world to enjoy the spring, visit pagodas, offer incense to Buddha, and pray for peace and prosperity in the country and people.
