The GenZ girl plans to "travel" through Vietnam alone, welcoming the age of 25
Mind that, when the legs are still healthy, if you have not given yourself the "lifetime" trip, you will surely regret it sooner or later. Therefore, Nguyen Thi Yen (Nickname: Yen Vi Vu, born in 1999, a native of Bac Giang) decided to make a journey through Vietnam alone by motorbike to celebrate her 25th birthday.
Yen Vi Vu graduated with a degree in Multimedia Communication from the Institute of Post and Telecommunications Technology. Currently, Yen is a full-time Travel Content Creator. The job is suitable for a girl who loves to "travel" like her.
Yen Vi Vu started from the beginning of 2023 and has completed 2/3 of the journey so far
Up to now, Yen has traveled to 46 provinces and cities on the "S-shaped strip of land". After exploring all 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam, Yen plans to visit countries in Southeast Asia.
The youth of the girl from Bac Giang is therefore more colorful. The experiences she gained on each trip were priceless.
The impetus for Yen Vi Vu to make a trip across Vietnam "for a lifetime" comes from her trip to An Giang with her friends in 2020.
"We stayed at a homestay and the owner of the homestay was the one who inspired me to travel across Vietnam.
She and her daughter traveled through Vietnam for 5 months by motorbike from An Giang in 2018. The pictures on the wall following the S-shaped map of Vietnam and the stories she told got me hooked. That journey is never good.
However, at that time, I was a student, so I didn't have much financial and life experience, so I dreamed of doing it before I was 25 years old. Because when I graduate from school, I will go to work and can save more money " - Yen recalls.
She bought a manual scooter and learned to drive 3 months before.
In the period of 2020 - 2021, the raging Covid-19 epidemic caused Yen to delay the trip. During that time, the girl in Bac Giang tried to "plow hoes" to work, learn life experiences, and build relationships through social networks.
And she spent 2022 preparing for the 10-month trip. Yen Vi Vu said, there are quite a few things to do before the trip:
- Detailed schedule planning and budgeting. Check the list of necessary items to see if they are available or need to be purchased. Yen prepared 20 million dong to go, enough money to cover the first few months. After that, I will go and work to have money to continue.
- Motorcycle: Buy a car 4 months in advance to get used to the clutch, test drive a few arcs such as Ba Vi, Moc Chau, Bac Giang. Check the vehicle for minor defects. Get your car serviced before you go.
- Clothing and personal belongings: Thin blankets, car repair tools, lubricants, raincoats, shoes.
- Equipment to work: Camera, phone, drone, battery charger, power bank, laptop, memory card, tripod...
- Connect with friends in the provinces.
Yen Vi Vu confided: "There are two things that concern me the most while traveling through Vietnam alone by motorbike. The first is fear of meeting bad people, maybe being robbed or bullied, something bad happens.
The second is the fear of breaking the car on the road. Because I'm a girl, I don't know much about motorbikes, and I'm also a manual scooter. Not everywhere has a shop that specializes in manual clutch repair."
300 days of traveling alone and "heart-pounding" experiences
Yen Vi Vu is fortunate to have her family's support for her passion for "moving". A month before leaving, during a family meal, Yen talked about her plan to go through Vietnam.
At first, her mother and sister worriedly asked about the details of the trip, afraid to see her daughter going alone for a long time, afraid of many problems.
"After answering all the questions, everyone seems to be more secure and supportive of their journey. And my father only said one sentence: "If you're young and healthy, just go, let me know." Actually, 3 years ago, I went to a lot of places and recorded a clip and uploaded it to my Youtube channel, and my parents and grandchildren also watched it at home.
Parents see their love of travel, learn more, grow up, so they support."
Chuyến đi bắt đầu từ Tết năm 2023.
Exploring the East - Northwest mountains with many memorable memories
Yen Vi Vu departs on January 30, 2023 (9th day of Tet). She is now more than half way through (7/10 months) and progress is still as planned.
In the series of days of exploring the East - Northwest, Yen Vi Vu has many interesting and memorable memories. She can admire the majestic scenery of mountains and forests, floating clouds in Ta Xua, Ha Giang, Son La, Lai Chau...
Tasting specialties of the mountains and forests, learning the unique culture of highland ethnic minorities such as H'Mong, Tay, Nung, Thai... through stories and people she met. Yen is not afraid to participate in the experience of going to the forest, trekking, tree planting, waterfall skiing, kayaking.
Going back to the Central region, Yen was once again overwhelmed by the scenery of the mountains and forests of Western Quang Tri, Ly Son island, or the ancient beauty of Hoi An. The people of Quang province are kind, and the cuisine of the Central region is also extremely "remembering" with travel blogger Bac Giang.
Ly Son Island (Quang Ngai) is wild and poetic
Yen shared an unforgettable memory when driving from Dien Bien to Bac Yen, Son La. The distance of 250km takes about 6 hours of continuous driving.
"After having lunch in Dien Bien, I left at 11 o'clock, thinking that it would be fine. Because I was busy taking pictures along the way and sometimes surfing social networks, it took time, I arrived at Son La at 17 o'clock. , it started to get dark.
The road from Co Noi fork to Bac Yen is steep and deserted, sometimes there are only a few houses. I was just driving and was scared.
When about 5km from Bac Yen, going uphill, the wheel turned upside down. Maybe it's a puncture? I quickly stopped the car, my mind came up with options to handle, which is to call for help because I know a sister in Bac Yen, or to turn the car downhill to find a house and then ask for a bed...
When I turned on the phone flash, I saw that there was no problem with the wheel, but there were car tire tracks on the road. It turned out that I went into the oil tanker track, so it was slippery and reversed. At that time, I breathed a sigh of relief and continued to Bac Yen.
The lesson learned is that it is necessary to calculate the excess of travel and rest time along the way, in case of an accident so as not to go at night, find a safe place to sleep before 5pm. Don't be reckless because safety comes first!"
Currently, the female travel blogger is continuing her journey across Vietnam to mark the age of 25. Traveling alone can be a strange thing in the eyes of many people.
But for Yen, when setting foot in a new land, immersing in discovering life with strangers is something worth trying.
Feeling free to enjoy life, increase knowledge - that precious experience, not everyone can do.
