The existing Co May Bridge is 258m long, 30m wide, including 2 opposing lanes separated by railings and two water pipes. Bridge railings are made of exposed reinforced concrete. The bridge architecture is normal, the aesthetic factor is not high. Therefore, in 2013, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province assigned the Department of Construction to propose an architectural plan to embellish Co May bridge. Through the audition, the option "Seagull's Wing" was selected. The project was approved for investment in 2017 and began construction in 2018. The construction process encountered many difficulties such as relocating water pipes, electricity, geological treatment...

Accordingly, the project is invested in construction with items including: embellishing the existing Co May bridge with a new structural system; The outside bridge abutments are covered with red-brown marble; The existing railing system on the outside of the bridge was replaced with reinforced concrete railings, the surface was finished with marble tiles... Construction work on Co May bridge took place quite hurriedly throughout the day to keep up with schedule. suggest.

At the construction site, the contractor mobilized a lot of manpower, barges and many machines such as cranes and forklifts to serve the construction of steel structures.

In 2017, the Co May Bridge embellishment project was approved by the People's Council of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with a total investment of more than 98 billion VND, with capital allocated for deployment in 2018.

The project is invested by the Civil and Industrial Project Management Board of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Afterwards, many items arose and difficulties arose during the construction process, so the project investment was adjusted up to nearly 115 billion VND. The completion plan is also delayed from March to July and now is in September 2023.

Now, after many years of construction, Co May Bridge has taken on a new, poetic look with soft curves...

According to the design, each side of the bridge has two truss systems forming the image of seagull wings. The two truss systems on both sides are linked together through a horizontal bracing system made of steel tubing. Along the two wings is a system of steel tubular hanging bars...

The height of the space truss is from the foundation to the top of the truss, which is more than 26m. The existing traffic lighting system is replaced with lighting posts designed with a stylized shape from the image of may flowers. The bridge uses color-changing LED headlights that illuminate at night to create a special visual effect. The two abutments in the middle of the bridge are designed to ensure safe and convenient vehicle traffic.

The embellishment of Co May Bridge aims to create a typical architectural highlight for the important connection location between the two cities of Vung Tau and Ba Ria, improve efficiency and exploit tourism potential, contributing to economic development - society.

According to the Civil and Industrial Project Management Board of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the Co May Bridge architectural embellishment project will be inaugurated this September.
