Purple Poinciana flowers have been present in Da Lat for a long time, but have only been widely grown in the past 10 years. According to existing documents, in 1962, agronomist Luong Van Sau brought this flower variety from Europe to plant in Da Lat. It was he who nursed and planted the first Purple Poinciana trees in this city.

Thus, Da Lat currently has two types of purple phoenix, including the type bred from the first purple phoenix tree by engineer Luong Van Sau, and a new type recently imported from South America. Both of these types have now become flowers that bring unique beauty to Da Lat and usually bloom in March and April every year.
