At the end of December, when the weather just warmed up, the whole village of Tan Hoa (Quang Binh) was busy celebrating Tet. The busiest are families running homestay businesses, preparing to welcome tourists. After 3 months of winter break, cleaning up after the flood, every house cleaned, replanted flower beds, trimmed fences, warmly welcomed guests back to Tan Hoa.

Mr. Truong Xuan Duong (person on the right) in village 1 - Yen Tho, Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province said that since working in tourism, his income has improved.

Mr. Truong Xuan Duong (in village 1 - Yen Tho, Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province) said that since starting the homestay business, his family has an additional income of 7 to 10 million VND each month. “This year, celebrating Tet is more fun than ever. From December 20, renovate the house, plant flowers right to the homestay door. Their guests travel throughout Tet, so I'm also ready to celebrate Tet with them."

Tan Hoa village is located between limestone mountains, with many cave systems that have existed for millions of years. Limestone mountains in Tan Hoa with many caves such as: Mouse Cave, Bat Cave, Tung Cave, Tu Lan Cave... create strengths in eco-tourism and cave tourism. In the past, this place had immense forests and mountains with many types of precious wood and countless precious medicinal herbs. Now, the forest has shrunk a lot, but there are also forests that are preserved by the villagers, so Tan Hoa still retains its wild beauty, attracting tourists.

Tan Hoa villagers prepare to celebrate Tet

The most prominent is the Con Lim forest, meticulously cared for by Mr. Truong Quoc Do's family in village 5 - Yen Tho. Mr. Do said that he lost his parents at a young age, grew up thanks to the forest, and the forest raised him as a person. Previously, he also destroyed forests according to the cooperative's orders, harvested wood to share and build houses. In 1993, when the State had a policy of allocating land and forests to people for protection, Mr. Do received nearly 20 hectares to care for and protect. From then on, Mr. Do considered the ironwood forest as his close friend. For decades now, through his caring hands, the ironwood forest has become increasingly greener. Now, in the Con Lim forest, many ironwood trees have become rare and ancient trees over a hundred years old.

Mr. Truong Quoc Do confided that even though he is poor, he is still determined to preserve and take care of the ironwood forest as a "treasure": "I protect the forest so that it can be handed over to the national park later, protecting it to conserve it. If you don't protect it later, it won't be there anymore. Protecting the ironwood forest is often dangerous, and illegal loggers often fight with me."

Not only Mr. Do, many Tan Hoa people used to destroy the forest, but now they have become strict forest protectors. Nowadays, when entering Tu Lan - Tan Hoa forest, there are no longer scenes of people illegally logging wood like in previous years. Men who in the past lived by hunting, fishing, sawing wood or destroying forests... have now become people who carefully preserve every treetop and pick up every bag of trash scattered in the forest.

Mr. Truong Quoc Do, the keeper of the ancient ironwood forest of Con Lim, gave an interview to VOV reporters

Tan Hoa has many caves, so when it floods, water drains slowly, causing many difficulties in production and people's lives. However, the people of Tan Hoa did not leave their hometown but found a way to live with the floods. After the historic floods of 2010 and 2011, people in Tan Hoa commune came up with the idea of making inflatable rafts to "live with the floods". This pontoon raft is made from about 20 to 30 empty drums, linked together to form a raft. When the water rises, this raft floats with the water. Gradually, people converted floating rafts into floating houses with roofs and walls to protect them from rain and sun. This floating house is held in place by 4 poles positioned at the 4 corners of the house and the whole family living in the floating house lives normally during the rainy season. To date, Tan Hoa commune has nearly 620 floating houses, ensuring 100% of households can safely adapt and live with floods. Nearly 620 of these floating houses were 100% funded by organizations and individuals to help people build.

As people live together safely in floating houses, Tan Hoa pays attention to developing a tourist village model that adapts to the weather, providing diverse experiences for tourism from homestays, to experiencing farming work. , dining at local houses, souvenir stalls and other services for tourists. Tan Hoa is also well invested in promotion work through the media introducing Tu Lan and Tan Hoa. Some films have had many scenes filmed in Tan Hoa such as “Kong: Skull Island”, “Immortals”, “The Legend of Quan Tien”,...
