Di tích được nêu trên chính là di tích văn hóa lịch sử cấp quốc gia ao Bà Om hay còn được mọi người gọi với cái tên Ao Vương. Nơi đây là di tích nổi tiếng của tỉnh Trà Vinh và có địa chỉ tại phường 8 TP Trà Vinh với tổng diện tích lên tới hơn 300ha.
Ngoài 3 phần chính là ao, bờ ao và rừng cây cổ thụ bao quanh bờ ao thì tại đây có khu vực ngoài cùng là rừng nguyên sinh được bảo tồn chặt chẽ. Khu rừng rộng tới 100m và dài 2km với nhiều cá thể thực vật đặc hữu của đất giồng cát, trong đó có tới 500 cây dầu cổ thụ đã lên tới trăm năm tuổi. Hình thù của gốc cây rất đa dạng và có nhiều hình thù kỳ lạ đến đẹp mắt.
Những rễ cây cổ thụ tại đây trồi lên trên mặt đất từ 1 - 2m và to lớn đến mức phải nhiều người ôm mới hết. Những rễ cây trồi lên mặt đất là do hiện tượng xói mòn đất trong một thời gian dài. Một số cây tạo thành các hang hốc đủ rộng để người chui lọt. Mật độ cây dày đặc với độ che phủ cao tạo cảm giác như một cánh rừng nguyên sinh nằm trong thành phố.
People here believe that many old trees in Ba Om pond are more than a thousand years old because next to the pond is Ang Pagoda - the oldest Khmer pagoda in Tra Vinh and was built in the 990s.
