Dong Thap Muoi ecological reserve (Thanh Tan commune, Tan Phuoc district, Tien Giang province), is known not only as a place with a diverse ecosystem, preserving many rich species of animals and plants, but also assessed as having potential for tourism development. Dong Thap Muoi ecological reserve was established in 2000, with an area of 106.8 hectares, of which 36 hectares of Melaleuca is the central area, a place to attract birds of prey. The buffer zone around the reserve is determined to have an area of 1,800 hectares, mainly melaleuca forest. Currently, Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve has a herd of wild animals estimated at about 10,000 animals, including birds, fish, animals... On average each year, there are about 1,000 more birds and animals breeding here and being lured from other places, most of which are storks, gongs, egrets, and owls... The reserve has been regenerated as a primeval forest, has a large forest area and is considered the most beautiful in the Dong Thap Muoi region.
According to the Management Board of Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve, through research, surveys and statistics, there are 156 species of plants, 147 species of birds, 34 species of fish, 8 species of amphibians. , a class of insects with 30 species living and growing. The number of bird species alone has tens of thousands of individuals, is strictly protected, and is growing and developing continuously, including many rare animal species such as: Snail stork, Snake-necked snake (senia), Gooseberry. Egret, Black Ibis, Gray Heron, Fire Heron, Ivory Stork, Dang sen... Most are relatives of storks.
