The narrator introduces Huynh Thuy Le ancient house.
This ancient house is the starting place for a love story between Mr. Huynh Thuy Le - the richest family in Dong Thap in the 30s of the twentieth century - and the French female writer Marguerite Duras.
At the end of 1929, on the My Thuan ferry crossing the Tien River, Mr. Huynh Thuy Le saw a woman with white skin, golden brown hair, and tall figure, standing on the ferry and looking at the water hyacinths floating scattered on the river. .
Mr. Huynh Thuy Le took the initiative to get to know the girl and they both fell in love at first sight. That love lasted nearly two years in secret and ended in tears when Mr. Huynh Thuy Le had to marry a girl who had been previously arranged by his father. Seeing her lover marry someone else, Marguerite Duras was extremely miserable and decided to board a train with her family to return to France.
More than half a century has passed, Marguerite Duras still embraces that love. In retrospect, the female writer wrote the novel "Lover" (French name L'amant, published in 1984) to tell about her difficult love. To date, the novel Lover has been translated into more than 40 languages. In 1992, French director Jean Jacques Annaud released a film of the same name based on her novel. The premiere of the film received much appreciation from audiences around the world.
