White ban flowers and purple phoenix flowers bloom in the mountain town of Da Lat

When winter passes, the yellow color of wild sunflowers fades, and Da Lat enters new flower seasons. Not bright, nor widely distributed throughout the mountain town like wild sunflowers or cherry apricot, white banyan and purple poinciana bring pure, quiet beauty on central roads.

The white ban flower is a typical flower from the Northwest mountains and forests that was planted in Da Lat many years ago and then developed and bloomed in the heart of the mountain town, becoming an unforgettable image in the hearts of people and tourists when returning to the region. plateau land.

The legend of the ban flower says that there was Ban and Khum, a talented and beautiful couple who loved each other dearly but did not have a happy ending. Their love story was forbidden by Ban's family. Forced to marry someone she did not love, Ban left home to meet Khum. Unable to meet him at home, she left the scarf on the stairs and ran to find him. Then she was exhausted and died without meeting her lover. Where Ban lay down, a flower tree grew with pure white buds like the buds of a girl's hand.

When Khum returned home, he saw the pieu scarf left behind by his lover and hurriedly searched for it, looking everywhere from village to village, then he was exhausted, fell down and turned into a bird living alone in the mountains and forests. Since then, every time the daylilies bloom, that bird sings throughout the forest like the call of an old lover, reminding of a beautiful, loyal, faithful but sad love.

In Da Lat, white flowers are grown along three main roads: Tran Phu - Dalat Cathedral (Chicken Church) - Palace 2; Quang Trung – Da Lat Station – Phan Chau Trinh Crossroads; Phu Dong Thien Vuong.

The time when Da Lat is in white rose season is from early spring to early summer, of which the most beautiful are the early spring days - when white rose flowers simultaneously show off their pure white color on the streets.

Hoa ban trắng có 5 cánh. Hoa thường mọc từ các nách lá non gần ngọn, đường kính hoa khoảng 10 -15cm.

On days with clear blue sky and beautiful sunshine, the white color of the ban flowers stands out against the sky.

Not bright, nor widely distributed throughout the mountain town like wild sunflowers or cherry blossoms, white flowers have a pure and gentle beauty.

The gentle beauty of white ban flowers leaves special emotions for those who have come and "fall in love" with the peaceful atmosphere of the mountain town of Da Lat.

Blooming at the same time as the white poinciana flower is the purple poinciana flower. This flower originates from South America, and began to be grown in Da Lat since the 60s of the last century.

The purple poinciana trees blooming on the streets of Da Lat today owe their great contribution to the late engineer Luong Van Sau. As one of the first agronomist engineers in Vietnam to be formally trained in France, engineer Luong Van Sau was instrumental in bringing purple poinciana seeds from France for experimental planting in Da Lat in 1962.

After many difficult decades, it was not until 1994 that the purple phoenix was successfully propagated by engineer Luong Van Sau using the branching method.

A few years later, in the late 90s, scientists tested and successfully cloned purple poinciana flowers from the sprouts of the first three trees successfully planted by engineer Sau in Da Lat. That is the purple phoenix tree on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street in front of Da Lat night market, in Bich Cau flower garden and in front of Thuy Ta restaurant (this tree has now fallen due to a storm in 2019).

From the above efforts, purple phoenix is commonly grown in Da Lat until now.

The purple poinciana blooming season usually lasts from the beginning of the year until July-August. Purple jacaranda trees can be 10-15m high and their canopy is 5-7m wide. The leaves are shaped like a poinciana tree. But unlike the Royal Poinciana, the Purple Royal Poinciana blooms in bunches in a circular shape.

Purple poinciana often blooms in Da Lat market area, Hai Ba Trung street, Tran Phu street, Nguyen Van Cu street, Yagout street, around Xuan Huong lake, Truc Lam Zen Monastery...

On beautiful days, it is not difficult to see purple phoenix petals blooming in the sky of the mountain town.

The purple color of this flower has a gentle, sad beauty.

In the first days of the new year, purple phoenix adds color to the peaceful picture of the "city of flowers" Da Lat.
