Bai Chay was originally a diamond-shaped island 6 km long, 2 km wide at its widest point, with an area of 1145.85 ha. The terrain is mountainous, the highest peak is 162m. To the north of the island is Cua Luc Bay, National Highway 18A opened in the 1930s. The south of the island overlooking Ha Long Bay has Ha Long Road built in 1959. The ward has Reu island 300m from the shore (easy to see when going from the Port. Bai Chay cruise ship to the Bay). To the east of the island, there is a ferry terminal (now a bridge) connecting to Hong Gai ward. B12 petroleum port is the largest petroleum port in the country, before 1965 was Hai Quan port.
Bai Chay has an artificial beach, located along Ha Long Bay, the sand beach is more than 1000m long and 100m wide. This is a beach that attracts a lot of tourists in the sea tourism season. The topographic feature is a low hill running gently towards the sea, extending for more than 2 km, embracing ancient pine trees, interspersed with hotels and small villas with separate architecture.
