Tourists following the Ho Chi Minh Highway (West branch), from km 39, will walk deep in the forest to Doong village, an isolated village in the core area of PN-KB National Park, taking about two hours. On the way, tourists are often scared and worried because of the landslides with slopes on the positive and negative sides hundreds of meters high and deep, creating a breathtaking scene.

On the way to Ban Doong, visitors can encounter many animals such as douc langurs, civets, pig-tailed macaques, red-faced monkeys... jumping under the thick carpet of trees. The trees are several people in diameter. This area has a strange collection of fruit trees such as bamboo, mulberry, star apple, black canarium, white canarium, cyst...

During fruit season, visitors can enjoy the taste of fresh forest fruits picked by themselves on the spot, after hours of walking on steep rocks and wading in deep streams. The Doong forest area is a flat valley, with primeval forests, containing many types of rare animals and plants. Ban Doong, with nearly 20 households, is also the only village of the Bru - Van Kieu ethnic group living in the strictly protected area of PN-KB National Park. Stopping at the village, visitors experience living the life of indigenous people with wild features amidst the mountains and forests.

Previously, this area of Doong forest was inhabited by gaurs, so it was also called the Hung gaur area. There is an ancient tree with a diameter that can take 12 people to hug and is over 1,000 years old. The altitude of this region is over 1,000m, the average temperature all year round is below 25oC. Many spectacular multi-terrain, winding roads can be exploited for mountain biking at an international level. In many places on the forest floor, on the karst (limestone) fields, there are orphan rocks with strange and very impressive shapes. Steep limestone cliffs, canyon-shaped valleys and small caves... create an attraction for tourists who like to explore and adventure.

Tourists travel in this area on flat roads, weaving under the canopy of primeval forests in Rao Thuong valley, giving everyone a real sense of relaxation after hours of walking on mountain roads. There are many flat alluvial grounds created by rivers and streams. The stone terraces run along the mountainside, along the stream... There are small caves with the door located right next to the stream water, nestled under a stone roof, or submerged under the water surface surrounded by trees.

Mr. Cao Xuan Chinh, former deputy director of PN-KB National Park, once exclaimed: "It's so beautiful that you'll be stunned when you come to this area. If you give me a hut and a bag of rice, I will stay here forever."

This place also has En Cave, which is the gateway to Son Doong Cave - the largest cave in the world to date. Usually in the fall, there are tens of thousands of swallows coming to reside in the cave located in the diving waters of Rao Thuong stream. It is called the diving area because when the river water flows here, it suddenly drops down, disappearing into the ground, as if someone had drank the water.

Hang En was first surveyed in 1996 by British cave explorers. The cave is more than 1.6km long, the cave ceiling is 100m high in some places, 170m in its widest place. From Ho Chi Minh Road (West branch) to this cave, it takes 12 hours to walk and 4 hours to wade through streams. Therefore, tourists have to camp and sleep in the middle of the forest before returning to the starting place.

After sightseeing the forest and En cave, visitors will go to the Khe Ri cave area located along the stream, in the south of the strictly protected zone in the core zone of PN-KB National Park. The cave is more than 19km long in total, and the cave's ceiling is up to 120m high. Khe Ri Stream originates from limestone peaks up to a thousand meters high and flows very strongly into the cave entrance. The water from the source flows into many different cave entrances in the cliffs, merges in the main Khe Ri system and then connects to En cave, then dives into the ground to flow underground to the Phong Nha river system.

The road to the cave has to go through many zigzags with deep lakes and many small, very dangerous caves. After getting bored of wading and climbing, visitors will have to... swim many passages in the cave, then squeeze through small sections of rock. There are deep water channels inside the cave, creating strong feelings for visitors.

In this forest area, the terrain is very suitable for adventure tours, combined with tourism to explore landscapes and experience. Therefore, according to a survey by the University of Natural Sciences (Hanoi National University), the areas of Doong village, En cave, and Khe Ri here have all levels of adventure tourism from lowest to highest. The section from Ho Chi Minh Highway (West branch) to En Cave is at level 1 danger level, only challenging visitors' endurance. The section from the back door of Khe Ri cave is 1km deep and is at level 2 danger level. The remaining section is assessed at level 3 and 4 danger levels. The final section must cross dozens of kilometers of dangerous roads on rocky terrain. , rivers, streams, deep caves.

Here will test the courage and health of visitors when facing the darkness, steep and slippery cliffs and stalactites, or the steep rocky slopes of collapsed rocks, right below is the canyon. deep alley. Visitors also have to swim nearly 1/3 of the way in cold water from mountain rocks, under rolling waterfalls, boiling with white foam.

In the hot summer, visitors to PN-KB forest will fully enjoy the cool air of mountains, rivers, streams, trees... Along with that are "trophies" of discovery and unforgettable experiences in life. .
