Especially in the temple grounds, there is a majestic and benevolent statue of Shakyamuni Buddha entering nirvana outdoors with dimensions of 63 meters long, 22.5 meters high, placed about 28 meters above the ground.
Som Rong Pagoda is also built in the same architectural style as other Southern Khmer pagodas with an area of 5 hectares including: Main hall, sala, house for monks, and also a book library with more than 1,500 volumes.
Regarding the name Som Rong, the reason is that in the past, this area had many wild trees named Som Rong growing around the pagoda, from which the pagoda has had this tree's name for hundreds of years.
According to monks, Som Rong Pagoda was built in 1785 and has undergone 12 generations of abbots. Initially it was made of temporary bamboo leaves, but after many restorations, it was as spacious as it is today.
Soc Trang is known as the capital of pagodas and towers. In addition to being a space for cultural and religious activities of the Khmer people, the pagodas are also a destination not to be missed by tourists on their journey to explore the Southwest
This is an attractive tourist destination that attracts tourists from all over because of its unique architecture, especially the giant reclining Buddha statue in the temple grounds.
