Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography is located at 1 Cau Da, Vinh Nguyen ward, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, 6 km from the city center. The reason why the Institute of Oceanography was built in the coastal city of Nha Trang is because it is not far from international waters and has the deepest coastline in Vietnam.

Established in 1923, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography is the leading marine research and archival facility in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, located in the system of specialized research institutes of the Center for Natural Sciences. and Vietnamese national technology. Currently, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography is focused on developing into a population for research, sightseeing as well as education on the protection of marine species.

Viện Hải dương học Nha Trang nằm trên một khu đất cao gần cảng Cầu Đá với diện tích 20 hecta. Trong đó, bảo tàng Hải dương học là địa điểm thu hút nhiều khách tới tham quan. 

Tại đây, du khách sẽ được chiêm ngưỡng tận mắt bảo tàng lưu trữ sinh vật biển với hơn 5.000 loại sinh vật và trên 20.000 mẫu vật đã được gìn giữ từ nhiều năm. Bên cạnh đó, nơi đây còn có rất nhiều loài sinh vật biển đẹp, kỳ lạ và quý hiếm được nuôi và chăm sóc trong các bể kính.

The museum is also a place to store specimens of tens of thousands of species, most especially giant fossil skeletons. Among them can be mentioned: The skeleton of a humpback whale, the skeleton of a crutch fish and the skeleton of an endangered sea cowfish. Specimens come not only from the Vietnamese ocean but also from the waters of Cambodia, Thailand and neighboring waters. Nha Trang Oceanographic Museum has been officially recognized by the Vietnam Book of Records Center as "The place to store the largest set of marine specimens" in the country since 2012.

The museum also has an outdoor sightseeing area that is only open from 9am to 11am. Here, visitors will be able to take a boat to the sea to see the activities of sea creatures through the glass on the bottom of the boat or experience scuba diving to see the creatures.

The museum is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. The entrance fee is 40,000 VND for adults, 20,000 VND for students and 10,000 VND for students.
