110 km from Ha Giang city, along National Highway 2 and Provincial Road 177, Hoang Su Phi is a district located in the west of Ha Giang. With a relatively complex terrain, Hoang Su Phi is divided by high and medium mountain ranges, gradually decreasing towards the river following the flow of Chay River and Bac River, creating 3 main types of terrain: high mountains, low and medium hills, and narrow valleys. Due to the long-term geological formation process and in-situ weathering on the parent rock, Hoang Su Phi has been created with diverse soil and land resources.

Hoang Su Phi is recognized as a national monument because of its wide, enchanting terraces. Hoang Su Phi terraced fields are masterpieces created by the hard-working hands, sweat and brains of the working people. Over time, the wild, rocky hills and mountains have been transformed by the ethnic minorities here into fertile, winding, undulating rice fields stretching to the horizon.
