A Journey Through the Golden Waves of Phung Village

The breathtaking beauty of Phung Village in Ha Giang is highlighted by its stunning terraced fields during the golden rice harvest season. Hãy nghe Nguyễn Thế Dương (Quảng Ninh) một travel blogger nổi tiếng bật mí .

Phung Village, Ha Giang has always been one of the ideal places to admire the golden season – the rice harvest season. For me, watching the terraced fields during the ripe rice season is like gazing upon one of the masterpieces created by the ethnic people of Northern Vietnam.

Unlike the areas in Lao Cai (such as Y Ty, the villages near Sa Pa like Nam Cang, Ta Van, and Muong Hoa Valley), where rice usually ripens at the end of August or early September, the rice in Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang ripens later. Therefore, when the harvest season starts in Lao Cai, you can begin planning your trip to Su Phi to enjoy the ripe rice season. With this extended timeframe, even if you are busy, you can still arrange to visit one of these two provinces to see the ripe rice.

Located in the west of Ha Giang, Phung Village belongs to Hoang Su Phi district, about 30km from the district center and more than 100km from Ha Giang city. To the southwest, it borders Xin Man district. Phung Village has a relatively small area, just over 17km², but it is one of the places with the most beautiful terraced fields, nestled between the Tay Con Linh mountain range.

The name "Phung" is also quite special. "Phung" means reunion, convergence. Perhaps this is why, when you come to Phung Village, you can witness the harmonious convergence of clouds, mountains, sky, and earth. All of these elements together create a scene both majestic and poetic in the landscape here.

Known as the "heart of Hoang Su Phi," Phung Village will overwhelm you with its unique terraced field structure. Situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level and surrounded by the Tay Con Linh mountain range, the terraced fields in Phung Village have a steeper slope compared to those in Lao Cai.

The most beautiful photo from my trip is the one below, capturing a perfect harmony. The rain had subsided from the night before. Early in the morning, the air was still heavy with moisture, and clouds began to gather lightly among the green mountains. Below were the vast golden rice fields. The fragrant scent of the rice filled the entire mountainous area. Small houses appeared faintly in the misty clouds, peaceful and serene.

As far as I know, there are three homestays where you can capture panoramic photos like this: Trong Phu homestay, Chi Tai homestay, and La Chi Phong homestay. The La Chi people in Phung Village cultivate terraced fields on the high mountains and build houses right in the middle of these fields, primarily living self-sufficiently. When you visit Phung Village, spend plenty of time walking around, and you will see the terraced fields embracing each house, adding to the peaceful scenery.

One of the most beautiful terraced fields during the ripe rice season that I was fortunate to witness features golden waves of rice gently curving along the mountain slopes, with a small house nestled in the middle of a large field, as if awaiting a bountiful harvest.

There are many interesting places to visit in the autumn, and Phung Village is one of them. Come during the autumn, the ripe rice season in Phung Village, to immerse yourself in the wild nature and enjoy a journey full of delightful experiences.
