3.1. Chieng Khoa Waterfall and its collection of interesting names

Chiềng Khoa Waterfall has many names, but the most common one is Cloud Waterfall. According to local experience shared in the guide for self-guided visits to Chiềng Khoa Waterfall, the name "Cloud Waterfall" is derived from a legend associated with the Xên Bản and Xên Mường festival—a unique cultural festival originating from the Thai ethnic group in Mai Chau, typically held during the blooming season of the ban flower.

This festival is a time for praying for a good harvest and blessings. On this day, the Thai people not only express their sincere hopes for a prosperous and peaceful life in their village but also celebrate with various interesting traditional games such as drum and gong performances, spinning top games, and tossing balls. Additionally, young men and women use simple, heartfelt music and songs to get to know each other.

Another name, Seven-Tiered Waterfall, is derived from the waterfall's structural characteristics. Viewed from top to bottom, the waterfall consists of seven tiers, each about 7 to 10 meters high. The cascading water from each tier forms a clear pool at the bottom. The name Seven-Tiered Waterfall reflects the waterfall's seven distinct tiers.
