In the Thai language, "Pu" means "mountain peak." Pu Mat is the name of the highest peak in the area, standing at 1,841 meters above sea level. This mountain's name has been used for the National Park. Pu Mat National Park spans three districts: Anh Son, Con Cuong, and Tuong Duong, with the entrance located in Chi Khe commune, Con Cuong district, Nghe An province.
The ideal time to visit Pu Mat National Park is from June to August each year. During this period, the weather is dry and cool, perfect for all kinds of recreational and exploratory activities. The park is open from 8 AM to 10 PM daily, so visitors can drop by any time they are in Nghe An.

Pu Mat National Park boasts one of the most diverse ecosystems of flora and fauna in Central Vietnam, with 2,494 plant species and 1,746 animal species. Pu Mat National Park is primarily home to the Thai ethnic group, who have lived there for generations. They reside in wooden stilt houses and earn their livelihood through rice farming, basket weaving, and brocade weaving. This is also where the Dan Lai ethnic group, known for their unique custom of sleeping in a sitting position, resides.
